Keep the lamp where people can see it
Jesus does not tell the crowd to become a spotlight. He says they already are light, and the only question is whether someone put a basket over it.
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Most of us are not hiding on purpose. We are tired. We keep the kind word in our pocket because the grocery line is loud and we do not want to be the person who talks religion in public.
The passage is plainer than that. A lamp is for the people already in the house. Good work, done where your street can see it, is how a Father gets the credit. Not a brand. Not a platform.
This week that might look like a name you use at the post office, a meal you drop without a speech, or showing up to the thing you said you would attend.
If you need a program to start, you will wait a long time. Light the lamp you already have. Set it where the room can use it.
